In today's world, it is so easy to get caught up in how fast everyone else is moving. When in fact it has nothing to do with me. We live in such a competitive and comparison world that we have become consumed with who arrives first, being the winning, my award is bigger than yours, and anything other than first place is losing. When we can step back, and move at our own rate of speed we arrive at the perfect time. One of the things that I admire most about who I am it is that when I say that I am going to be somewhere at a certain time that I arrive on time or early. It's not about winning or losing it for me it's about being available when I said that I am going to be available. There are countless times however when I have received criticism and feedback about my compulsion around time. Today I am fully aware that I move at a rate of speed that is different from everyone else. Today I recognize within myself that the rate of speed at which I move is perfect for me. I assume no responsibility for how you view, or receive the way that I am living my life.
Day 20: Snails, what are the importance of being at home within yourself?
Snails get this reputation for moving slowly. My beloved indulged my love of animated films and we went to see the movie Turbo together. I loved the movie and all of the adult life lessons that can be gleaned from it. What is it about moving slowly that is bad? Well, it is not, we have been so accustomed to high speed internet, buy it now, and all of the instant gratification in the world that moving slowly is like not moving at all.
Moving at one own pace is exactly what nature does. With all the climate changes in the world today it often feels like we get all four seasons in one day. You can often hear people here in Seattle say that if you don't like the weather wait 5 minutes and you will have something different. Wait? What is that I want it NOW! It isn't that the snail is moving slow. In fact in the world of the snail, it is moving through life with lighting speed. When I think about the movie Turbo that is what comes to mind. It is all about perception.
I am constantly asked for the tools for success from my clients, friends, and community members. I hear a great deal about how folks want things to shift in their lives. I usually start with the truth about how we didn't get here over night and it will most likely take us a moment to find ourselves in a new environment. I ask questions like what are you doing to quiet your mind, and go within? You mean you want me to meditation? I have tried that before and it doesn't work. What are you reading? Who has time to read? I need something that is going to fix this mess!
I can learn a great deal from the snail. Travel at my own pace, find time to rest, and go within for the answer. If I am moving slower than you are that is excellent. If I need to rest and you are the energizer bunny that is excellent as well. If I choose meditation, quiet time, and seek the answers that I need from within that too is excellent. It is not about speed. It is about focus, perspective, and bliss. Can I find a place within myself that is ok with where I am at this now moment? Am I am peace? Am I willing to trust that where I am heading is the right place for me and that it will be there when I arrive. Do I understand at my core level that what is for me will appear at the perfect time, and that no one can take what is mine?
Be mindful of your pace today. Move at the rate of speed that feels right for you.
I love you,
Rev Allen
